Cementing their reign as metalcore titans, New York City’s own Locked In A Vacancy have unleashed their much-awaited EP, …Before The Dawn. This release marks a significant milestone in the band’s fiery journey, embodying a sound that is both brutally incendiary and crushingly innovative. Following the electrifying impact of their recent singles, “The Burden of Being” and “…of Church and State,” the EP is set to set the metal world ablaze.
The band’s seminal full-length album, It’s Always Darkest…, released on August 29, 2006, set a profound benchmark in their musical odyssey before submerging into hiatus. Now, they’re rekindling that fiery spirit with the release of their latest EP, …Before The Dawn, marking a pivotal transition from darkness into light.
…Before The Dawn is a relentless barrage of sound, each track meticulously crafted to showcase the band’s signature blend of intricate guitar work, earth-shattering breakdowns, and hauntingly fierce vocals. The EP’s lyrical content delves deep into the heart of societal discord, echoing the sentiments of disillusionment and resistance that resonate in today’s tumultuous times.
In this latest release, Locked In A Vacancy doesn’t just revisit the themes of their past work; they reframe them, offering a newfound sense of clarity and purpose. The darkness that once seemed all-encompassing in It’s Always Darkest… now serves as a backdrop to the emerging light in …Before The Dawn.” It’s a testament to the band’s journey – not just as musicians but as storytellers, philosophers, and bearers of hope.
True to their roots, Locked In A Vacancy ensures that their music remains a potent form of expression against the backdrop of current socio-political landscapes. The EP’s raw energy and pointed social critique are a testament to their commitment to not just create music, but to spark a conversation, to challenge, and to awaken.
Recorded at the renowned Landmine Studios in Ewing, New Jersey, and released under the banner of Fuzz Therapy Records, this EP represents a crescendo of the band’s artistic evolution. Each track weaves a narrative that transcends the confines of genre, inviting listeners into a world where darkness gives way to dawn, both metaphorically and musically.
Commenting on the EP, vocalist & lyricist Dyami Bryant states:
“It was crucial for us, right from the start, to approach our music with an artistic mindset. We were never just about creating straightforward tracks. Even in the early days, our band had a penchant for the more unique bands in the hardcore scene. Sure, we respected New York bands like Indecision and Shutdown, but we were really drawn to the unconventional, the ones who strayed from traditional hardcore. Bands like Shai Hulud, Coalesce, Converge, Botch, and Candiria were big influences on us – they were doing something different, mixing styles, adding a bit of chaos and complexity. That’s what caught our attention. We’ve always been open to a broad range of musical influences, intentionally avoiding putting limits on our sound.”
Fans can expect …Before The Dawn to be a journey through the deepest hours of the night, each song a chapter leading to an awakening, both personal and collective. The EP is not just a collection of tracks but a comprehensive story – a story of struggle, awakening, and the relentless pursuit of truth.
As the world gears up to embrace …Before The Dawn, Locked In A Vacancy stands ready, not just as musicians, but as harbingers of a new era in metalcore – one that is unapologetically fierce, unflinchingly honest, and undeniably powerful. Beyond just dropping an EP, Locked In A Vacancy has unleashed a maelstrom: returning to dominate the scene with their blistering resistance and unyielding resilience, ready to tear down the walls of the genre.

Dream Pop Artist ellakate Launches Debut EP ‘Illusion’
Ellakate debuts new EP ‘Illusion’ – a 5-track musical milestone that guides listeners through a range of emotional trials and tribulations.
Emerging pop sensation ellakate unveils her highly anticipated 5-song EP, Illusion – showcasing several of her previous fan favourites, including “Dry” and “I’m Yours.” Combining elements of pop and alternative pop, ellakate invites listeners on a profound journey, delving into themes of mental health, toxic relationships, coping mechanisms, addiction, loneliness, obsession, and burnout.
Illusion is a compilation of songs that intricately narrate the journey of using unhealthy coping mechanisms to alleviate negative emotions. From grappling with burnout and boredom to seeking solace in intentionally volatile relationships, each track unveils a different facet of the human experience. Through poignant lyrics and emotive melodies, ellakate’s EP serves as a testament to the illusory comfort provided by these mechanisms, ultimately leading back to the same feelings of emptiness and loneliness.
“This EP is a group of songs that are all unique in style, yet cohesive in story. Each song conveys a different emotion, taking you on a sonic journey. From the upbeat, fun vibe of “Dry” to the eerie theatricality of “I’m Yours”, and the stripped-back vulnerability of “Illusion”, there’s something for every listener to connect with.”
Reflecting on the creative process, ellakate expressed her deep attachment to Illusion, a culmination of over a year’s work. Delighted with the final product, she explored various sounds to convey emotions while aiming to offer solace to listeners grappling with similar experiences. She believes the EP resonates with themes of burnout, obsession, and heartbreak, hoping to reassure her audience that they are not alone.
Ella Greenbaum, artistically known as ellakate, is an alternative pop singer-songwriter born, raised, and based in Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up with musical parents and a knack for creating and performing, ellakate found a passion for music that went beyond forcing her brothers to listen to her melodies as a child. “When my dad first explained what the song “Brandy” by Looking Glass was about, I discovered the magic of storytelling in songwriting. I have been singing and making up songs for as long as I can remember,” said ellakate about her innate talents. She has written hundreds of songs since her childhood exploring topics that coincide with the journey of growing up and finding love, filling piles of notebooks in her room with song lyrics. ellakate’s songs recount stories and experiences that may have not happened to her but are inspired by events that have impacted her.
Her voice has been compared to a “young Sara Bareilles,” showing her vocal prowess – honest and sensual, with a hint of innocence. Her sultry vocals mixed with her haunting, bold, and romantic sound are reminiscent of artists like Billie Eilish, Fiona Apple, and Lana Del Rey. ellakate is a breath of fresh air in the musical climate, writing exactly what we’re all thinking and spinning it in a mature yet cheeky way.
