Social Creatures Premiere Their Spirited “Nothing Changes” Music Video
Social Creatures premiere their lively and spirited Olga Elliot-conceived and directed music video for their latest single, “Nothing Changes,” featuring actor Edward Furs.
Oftentimes the best way to make a serious point is with the use of humour, and Social Creatures have done an exceptional job of that with their new video clip for “Nothing Changes.”
A song that focuses on the struggle with drugs and alcohol, the quartet has combined it with a pleasant and amusing video clip. It features a New York City bodega worker having the time of his life on the job. It features actor Edward Furs, who has had roles in Michael Clayton and The Sopranos. The band wanted to make a video that would be both funny and also moving, and that also spoke to their Brooklyn roots.
Lead singer Jono Robertson said of “Nothing Changes:”
“The song is about sobriety. I’m a person who’d had drugs/alcohol issues from a very young age for around 15 years. Being three-and-a-half years sober, I’ve recently felt like reflecting on what that transition has been like and everything surrounding that struggle. The song personifies those demons and cravings and describes a really seductive, unhealthy holding pattern. This song to me has the feeling of rising from the ashes. It has an appreciation for a new way of living, but also reminisces and romanticizes the old life and struggle.”
The video was conceived and directed by Brooklyn filmmaker Olga Elliot. Elliot has been well-recognized within her industry for her superb work. She has had films featured in various festivals, and with a background in comedy and comedic writing, Elliot seemed like a natural fit to oversee this video.
It was just last year that Social Creatures released their self-titled full-length debut through BonFire Records. Robertson is joined in the band by his comrades Daniel Tooma on guitar, bassist Jacob Ott, and drummer John Patrick Roach. They have been together since 2018, honing a unique modern sound with classic elements. There are a lot of throwback analog synths and an ’80s feel to it all. But there is also undeniably a strong modern indie presence within. They quite enjoy conjuring up lots of danceable moments with a nostalgic tone and a zest and gusto for the joys of music within one’s life.
