The decades-spanning Toronto band’s unique sound is a blend of punk, grunge, and classic rock – think Neil Young meets REM meets Modest Mouse, with occasional elements of funk thrown in. But their music is more than just melodies mixed with noise and chaos. They tackle themes like love, loss, and self-discovery with honesty & vulnerability. It’s this combination of raw emotion and raw power coupled with lyrical quirkiness that sets them apart.
Commenting on the tune, the band states:
“We’re Vicky von Vicky, an indie rock band from Toronto. Following the release of two albums, we took a hiatus in the early 2000s. Now, after two decades, the band has regrouped for a triumphant return to stage and studio.”
“Jealousy” is essentially a break-up song that doesn’t dwell on your typical anxiety & heartbreak. It is an uplifting indie rock anthem that guides the listener through the story of a relationship gone sour, with the narrator in a seemingly state of bliss throughout, and is ultimately content at the conclusion. The verse and chorus guitars recall indie power pop and classic rock songs, with a bouncy beat & rhythm that propels the listener from beginning to end.
