The Art of Deception is bringing awareness to mental health fears with their newest single and video, “Despondency.”
Hailing from Pine Grove, Pennsylvania, The Art of Deception is a group of four friends united by their love of metal music. Releasing two EPs and a multitude of singles throughout the eight years of being a band. Despite multiple challenges and lineup changes, the group is set to release their new single, “Despondency,” off their upcoming EP Imminence. The Art of Deception was formed with the goal in mind to make and share the music they love with the world, and they still continue that aspiration.
Commenting on the single, the band share:
“During the pandemic the band was not able to meet as a group causing uncertainties and tension about the future. Our vocalist, Nolan, expressed he began to lose hope for his future as relationships around him started to dissolve. Having now developed trust issues Nolan’s depression grew and thoughts of self-harm occurred periodically. Nolan is self-aware of his depression and has been taken active steps to ensure a happy and healthy life. This song is a reflection of Nolan’s thoughts and fears. We feel there are many people who shared Nolan’s thoughts and struggles in recent years and wanted to express to them that they’re not alone.”
In relationship to the song and the message, mental health awareness is the ongoing effort to reduce the stigma around mental illness and mental health conditions by sharing our personal experiences. Often, because of misconceptions about mental health and mental fitness, people often suffer in silence, and their conditions go untreated.
