Inezona Premieres Her Thumping, Cerebral New Album, ‘Heartbeat’
Never ceasing to impress with her ambition and expansiveness, Inezona returns with the thumping new album, ‘Heartbeat’ (Czar of Crickets).
Never ceasing to impress with her ambition and expansiveness, Inezona returns with the thumping new album, Heartbeat. A very cerebral person who defies any realistic musical comparisons has reinvented herself with this brand new set of eight songs, all very bold and beautiful in how they build, progress, and ultimately satisfy.
Due for release officially on June 30th via Czar of Crickets, Heartbeat again features the talents and contributions of guitarist Gabriel Sullivan. Sullivan, known for his work with XIXA and Giant Sand, and Inezona worked together on the record in her hometown of Basel, Switzerland, a place where the two have previously recorded together as well. Sullivan and Inezona also previously collaborated on her third solo effort, 2019’s NOW, which they recorded together in the Arizona desert.
While NOW featured an avant-garde Latin desert pop sound, and last year’s A Self Portrait was instrumental, INEZONA has flipped the script for Heartbeat, unveiling a musical style that is not easily qualified or explained. It’s its own thing, not coming close to anything else out there, a gentle yet powerful sound expressed with power and conviction.
There has always been a cinematic quality to her music, which is once again on display here, with songs that have the versatility, feel, and ambiance to fit into a film. The same can be said of A Self Portrait, even despite the significant differences between it and this record. A special collaborator on this record is Frederyk Rotter, guitarist and singer of Swiss metal band Zatokrev, who helped write and record the single “Midnight Circle.”
There’s such an elegance about INEZONA that it almost goes beyond words. She is very comfortable operating within whatever musical space she finds herself in. It’s a testament to her immense talent, musical versatility, and curiosity, which continues to lead her down new and exciting pathways.
