Katy Guillen & The Drive Premiere Their Hard-Driving “Set In Stone” Music Video
Katy Guillen & The Drive unveil the hard-driving music video for their infectious guitar rocker of a single, “Set In Stone.”
With new music, a new band, and a new approach, Katy Guillen is taking the bull by the proverbial horns and forging on. She’s got a brand new single out called “Set In Stone,” an infectious guitar rocker, the video for which she now unveils in all of its hard-driving glory. Featuring her and her drummer sidekick Stephane Williams, the duo, known as Katy Guillen & The Drive, have put out a satisfying new performance video to go along with the release of the single.
The song is the first sampling of new music off of the duo’s debut full-length record Another One Gained, which will be released on August 19th. Working alongside producer Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket, Heartless Bastards, Ray LaMontagne), “Set In Stone” was written at a vulnerable time for Guillen, a short time after her longtime band was about to play their farewell show. It was during this time that she was struggling with direction and coming up with this song helped her find the sense of structure and stability for which she was so longing.
Telling us more about the video shoot, Guillen states:
“We thought a dark, vibey room would be the perfect spot for a performance video of Set In Stone,” so we chose Kansas City’s The Nighthawk. Videographer Lauren Schrader and director Courtney Cottle were able to hone in on the emotion of the song by mixing the elements of the lighting, smoke, and the giant red stage curtain as a backdrop. It all came together to capture the mood of the song really well.”
Breaking up from her previous bandmates began a fundamental life and musical transition for Guillen, and although it was difficult for a time, she has now found her way. Another One Gained will build off of the vibrant, guitar-driven sound of “Set In Stone,” a set of straightforward rockers that will remind you of The Black Keys and Sharon Van Etten. Guillen and Williams have crafted an album with a classic sound that’s a memoir of growth and rejuvenation that has come way via emotionally affecting change and transition. It wasn’t just her band that Guillen lost, but also a longtime partner, and it was during this time that she also was finding her place within the LGBTQ community.
Feeling quite comfortable now, Katy Guillen & The Drive are just finding their groove and settling into what should be a very exciting time for them as a fast emerging musical duo.
