NITE Turns to Day in the Duo’s “Sleepless Through The Night” Music Video [Premiere]
Rough night last night? Starting to lose it now that it’s the afternoon? Well, NITE has arrived to offer you some encouragement with the ray of sunshine that is their music video for the new single “Sleepless Through The Night.” The video is the perfect accompaniment to the song’s upbeat nature, with duo and twin brothers, Myles and Kyle Mendes, shown walking through the sunny heat of the desert with their guitars in hands. Off of their third studio record, Sleepless, (Cleopatra Records), the song came to be when Myles felt motivated to write something positive as a consequence of the situation in which he found himself.
What do we mean by that? Well, thankfully, we have Myles himself, to explain things in more detail: “I wrote this song while living in a small, one bedroom apartment. It was my first apartment, and I wasn’t used to hearing my neighbours through the walls yet. I overheard a few arguments, and it inspired me to write this song. It’s about making peace with someone you love before the day is gone, even if finding peace takes all night.”
Myles continues, “Musically, I was inspired by the songwriting style of Fleetwood Mac and The Police, if they were produced by Saint Pepsi (Skylar Spence). After a show, we were once coined as ‘The Gothic Beach Boys’ because we use a lot of harmonies in our music so I really wanted this song to capitalize on that idea. This happened to be the first song we wrote for the album and we decided it should be the title track, but didn’t want the title to be too long, so we settled on calling the album Sleepless. We played it for the first time at the 2018 Cleopatra SXSW showcase.”
The Mendes brothers were born in Canada but grew up in Dallas, Texas where they began to form their unique combination of electronic rock and 1980s style dream pop. Their songs contain pulsing dance beats that deliver the fire and energy that you witness in their live performances. Thus far, they’ve performed on three full North American tours, in 2016 with both Seabound and The Foreign Resort and 2018 along with The New Division. Released in April, Sleepless is preceded by 2017’s Reborn and the 2014 self-released debut, I Am Not Afraid.
NITE has arrived and there’s nothing but sunshine surrounding them all around. With talent and momentum to back them up, it’s time to immerse yourself in some dream-pop with Sleepless.
