Neo-Soul Group Hi-Lux Remind Us that You “Get What You Give” [Song Premiere]
If mad groove in your music is what you’re seeking, well, you’ve come to the right place. There’s plenty of groove to go around in Hi-Lux’s brand new single “Get What You Give,” the newest tune to come from the group’s two-track single where you’ll find plenty more sweet swagger. Indulging in their soul, rock, reggae and funk roots, Hi-Lux sound as polished as they could be, led by the moving lead vocals of frontwoman Julia Haile and the bluesy beats and guitars provided by the rest of the band.
With a few words regarding the new track, Haile said, “‘Get What You Give’ is a take on the classic idiom ‘treat others as you’d like to be treated,’ but with serious attitude. When you finally realize how you did me wrong, there’s no love left in my eyes, time to sing a different song. We don’t have time to waste. Dance and groove as you wave goodbye!”
Based in Kansas City, the neo-soul band’s musical mission is targeted on creating music that pays tribute to their countless influences, some of which include Amy Winehouse, The Meters, Sharon Jones, and The Dap Kings. Feeding off of that inspiration, Hi-Lux is out to carve out their own place as an eclectic group that is musically unpredictable. Their double-single serves as a terrific introduction of what’s coming when they make their way back to the studio to record new music. For Hi-Lux, it’s about mixing the old and mixing the new and avoiding the trap of stale, paint-by-numbers music.
