Michael Monroe – “One Man Gang” [Rapid Review]
Due via Silver Lining Music, Michael Monroe’s new album One Man Gang is a jet-fueled rock and roll rodeo comprised of killer guitar riffs and snot-nosed punk alley gutter lyrics.
If there’s one thing you can count on about Michael Monroe, it’s his consistency. Just like the New York Dolls, you get what you pay for, and that’s intense punk rock bebop. New album One Man Gang (pre-order/save here) is a jet-fueled rock and roll rodeo compromised of killer guitar riffs and snot-nosed punk alley gutter lyrics.
Sometimes Monroe comes off as a young Alice Cooper in “Junk Planet.” The next moment “Midsummer’s Night” has you walking home in the cool Sunset Strip breeze. I love the creeping Stones vibe and the shout-along chorus of “The Pitfalls of Being an Outsider,” while “Hollywood Paranoia” makes my balls shrivel, and “Heaven is a Free State” leaves you asking for more chips and salsa from Monroe’s taqueria.
All and all, this is a great rock and roll record and, while many of the post-punk, Stones-influenced bands have fallen to the wayside, Michael Monroe charges forward with One Man Gang.
