Download Festival headliner Corey Tayler of Slipknot, has teased some new behind the scenes snaps of the making of his new signature mask for 2019 and new era of the band.

Corey appeared on podcast “Let There Be Talk” talking about working with esteemed special effects artist Tom Savina (known for Dawn of the Dead and Friday 13th), for the next incarnation of the mask, saying “He’s the godfather to me.”..“[I] got to hang out with him, got to talk with him. Met him through a friend who actually works with him. And the three of us were kind of developing this new mask together so I’m kind of fucking chuffed on that.”

The legendary masked metaller previously appeared on Metal Mania Radio in 2014 talking about how the band’s masks evolve over time “With every album, some of us have evolved our masks more dramatically than others, but there’s always a difference, they’ve always changed a little bit, and [.5: The Gray Chapter] is no exception,” he said. “I mean, I think mine and Clown’s and Sid’s have changed the most, because it’s evolution.”

He went on to say: “This band evolves with every album, and it just makes sense that our masks [would as well], because we’re not the same people. It’s not something that we sit down and we talk about as a group, we just kind of do it. As unified as we all are, the mask is really something that we trust each other to do individually and we trust them to do the right representation.”

With a new album due out this year and an appearance at Download Festival, 2019 is going to be a busy year for the masked metal heavyweights and the band are set to headline Download Festival 2019 with Tool and Def Leppard, June 14-16 at Donington Park, Leicestershire. I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
