The Skull – “Sometime Yesterday Mourning” and “Last Judgment” [Song Review]
These two songs are “teasers” of what’s to come on the as-yet-untitled, Autumn 2014 debut release from The Skull. When I read the bio I knew right away I was going to dig this disc; the band, comprised of ex members of Trouble and Sacred Dawn, lay down two of the strongest, doomiest tracks I have heard in quite some time.

“Sometime Yesterday Mourning,” is a mid-tempo, riff-driven tune that I think is a perfect intro to the band. It is; however, the second track “Last Judgment” that really got my blood pumping. Slower and gloomier than the opener, it really trudges along with heavy, hard-hitting guitars that are pure doomy bliss.
Eric Wagner’s vocals are as powerful as I remember and he is still able to create and maintain a mournful vibe that is the perfect accompaniment for this gloomy metal. To be honest, both of these songs are very reminiscent of early Trouble tunes, especially the 1984 debut, Psalm 9. What’s not to love? I can guarantee I’ll be playing these two tracks all Summer long in anticipation of The Skull’s pending full-length.
