Album Review
Man Made Machine – “Become”
What is a man made machine? Well there’s Robocop, Astroboy and even the Six Million Dollar Man, an astronaut who got implants working for the OSI. Then there’s Tempe, Arizona rock band Man Made Machine. The group turned heads with their early demos which ultimately led to their signing and release of their debut, Become, via Razor & Tie.

This album features hard rock with simple, but heavy instrumentals and some loud shouted singing by vocalist Joe Cotela (which makes the music’s vibe kinda bad-ass). Every few songs Man Made Machine will heavily mellow the instrumentals while Joe maintains his exerted voice and angry lyrical content – see songs “Bad Motherfucker”, “Pain” and “Victim”.
While decent, musically Become feels like another copy cat record; one in a style bands are mimicking just to get “famous” or be on the radio. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike Man Made Machine, I just feel they need to try finding their own unique element so as to diversify themselves from both the hundreds of young, cookie-cutter bands AND established acts (Breaking Benjamin, Burn Halo, Black Stone Cherry, Finger Eleven) already doing the same thing.
