The Karma Cure – “Saturn”

I can hear the shredding, its melting my face off. This is the effect of none other than The Karma Cure and their EP Saturn. Coming all the way from Elora Ontario, these rockers show us what talent is. Now sit down and listen to what makes a face melt.

I can hear the shredding, its melting my face off. This is the effect of none other than The Karma Cure and their EP Saturn. Coming all the way from Elora Ontario, these rockers show us what talent is. Now sit down and listen to what makes a face melt.

As the first song begins you hear the fading in of guitars, then duel guitars shred a harmonizing intro. This is followed by all of The Karma Cure joining in with their loud progressive metal music which spans across the entire album. Chris Henderson and Steve Richard’s guitar skills are absolutely amazing with fast pace guitar riffs demonstrating a variety of techniques used in the metal scene. Sometimes they are melodic and a bit jazzy which can be heard on the intro of ‘The March of the Swadisthana’. Phil Darasch takes on backing leads behind the guitars, doing his own thing. It’s always nice to hear a bass player performing his own leads as well as playing backup. Matthew Huber-Kidby’s drum skills are solid while throwing in drum fills throughout the songs. Last is Kirk Johnston who growls aggressively on every song. Occasionally there is singing throughout Saturn. It’s weak but it helps to mellow things out.

My favorite song is ‘Ecliptic’; it is full of harmonizing guitars and overall just a heavy song. You can really feel the energy The Karma Cure puts towards this opener. I’m picturing a concert where half the audience moshes during this song while the other half is dazzled by the band’s instrumental and vocal skills.

Saturn shows true musicianship and lucky for us that talent resides right here in Ontario, Canada. Everyone should hit up The Karam Cure’s Myspace and download this digital release. Fans of Protest The Hero, Assassinate The Following, After The Burial and The Human Abstract will love The Karma Cure.  [ END ]
