Cancer Killing Gemini – “Christcontrol” [Song Review]

Cancer Killing Gemini, sports a wicked mix of vintage keys, drum machines, guitars and vocals which create a sound quite akin to that of Nine Inch Nails. Honestly, the resemblance is immediately apparent. This is no to say that the comparison is a bad thing though. Much like NIN, CKG seem to be able to easily switch between aggressive tracks and songs that are more down-tempo, creating a nice dichotomy of soft and loud.

At the moment, Cancer Killing Gemini is in the studio recording their debut album It Only Hurts When We Breathe. Thankfully the song in question, “Christcontrol” is streaming on the band’s MySpace, so anyone can check it out. Upon a first listen, “Christcontrol” does bear many of the aforementioned NIN qualities, but before a snap judgment, take the time to listen to the song in full. Initial comparisons aside, the chorus is this awesome, almost ballad-like hook that keeps you wanting more and in all honesty, the song is quite memorable.

Although VERY new to the scene, CKG creator and vocalist Eric Michael Cohen has had his fare share of gigs with other bands including: Kittymonkey, Battershell and Boston hard rockers Decaf. In may ways it seems that all of these past groups were simply leading Eric down the path that would end in the creation of CKG. This band is the culmination of years of experience and hard work and it has truly paid off. NIN comparisons be damned, “Christcontrol” is a hell of a cool song.  [ END ]
