The After Chapter – “Relentless”
As of late Ontario has witnessed an increasing amount of great bands coming out of the wood work, so to speak. To name but a few: Threat Signal, Odium, Arise And Ruin and, of course, The After Chapter all come to mind. As of late Ontario has witnessed an increasing amount of great bands coming out of the wood work, so to speak. To name but a few: Threat Signal, Odium, Arise And Ruin and, of course, The After Chapter all come to mind. Relentless is the first full length from St. Catharines metal band The After Chapter and these guys are for sure another reason why Ontario is gaining the reputation of being a true metal community.
Opening the record is an instrumental “Intro” with layered harmonizing guitars backed by bass and rhythmic drums. This leads into the song “Darkest Before Dawn.” After a bit of solo guitar work everyone joins in to support the growls of vocalist Goober. This sets the mood for the rest of Relentless. Goober’s growls are deep and powerful, sometimes being overlaid with shrill screams. Creating the melodies for these vocal overlays is the guitar work from Cory and Horton. Every guitar riff is heavy and memorable, accompanied by Johnny Metal’s bass lines. Ben anchors the group as he pounds the drums with a generic but effective metal style.
A song that I listen to on repeat is “Hammered.” The instrumentals throughout the song are perfect. Plenty of thrash riffage and well performed vocal lines help to create a perfect metal track. Even the breakdown halfway through the song is very catchy and just makes you want to headbang to the beat. This is one of the many great songs that you will find on this album. “Hammered’ is followed by the “Houston, We Have A Problem,” a great instrumental interlude with amazing guitar solos that offer a breather before the last tune, “Wither Me.”
The After Chapter are a supreme metalcore band and Relentless is a sample of their greatness. Not only has the band produced a great album, but they are also an entertaining live act. I have seen this band perform and let me just say they definitely won fans at every show. Fans of Lamb Of God, Unearth, Misguided Aggressions and Bloodshoteye will love The After Chapter. Also keep watching this band, they might just be putting out a new release in the very near future. *hint hint*. [ END ]
