Album Review
See You Next Tuesday
Intervals (10.21.2008)
See You Next Tuesday is back with an even more epic album than Parasite. Intervals hones all of the abilities of each band member and amplifies them to monstrous proportions. Unfortunately, the band’s former vocalist Bear had to leave due to health reasons. Bad news aside, Chris is able to fill Bear’s shoes quite nicely… maybe even a tad bit better!
The majority of modern grindcore often sounds more like deathcore; which people tend to get confused time and time again. I’ve heard many people claim See You Next Tuesday falls into deathcore, however, I disagree entirely. The instrumentation is far too sporadic to be deathcore, which as a style tends to have more structure. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying See You Next Tuesday doesn’t have a pattern, they just have a unique pattern and rhythm with their style of music.
A lot of grindcore bands have a hard time actually bringing out the hardcore influence. These guys have obviously studied up a bit though; the hardcore influence herein is gigantic. The influence is a tad bit more modern hardcore, but it’s still prevalent nonetheless.
As aforementioned, the music itself is very random; strange time patterns, off-key vocals, sour chords, and odd notes that aren’t in scale. These things are what define this particular genre. Even with the odd time signatures, I was bouncing away anyway.
“One Of These Days” has got to be the most memorable track on the disc, in my opinion. It sounds very similar to the techniques used on the previous album, but also with a more “gritty” feel to it. This track is the perfect song to mosh, throwdown, or hardcore dance to.
Intervals is definitely one of the most energetic albums I have heard in a few years. The disc was also released on an LP, which I bet sounds ten times better on vinyl. Superb job! [ END ]
