Album Review
Kathleen Turner Overdrive
Marauders! Wolves! Scavengers! Party! [EP] (06.03.2008)
Norma Jean better be on guard, because Kathleen Turner Overdrive is the new era of hardcore. These guys bring a whole new meaning to “hardcore”; a mixture of “sour” chords, beer, and mullets. I just saw these guys live at Le Skratch here in Oshawa, Ontario on September the 26th, and it was an epic show. After reading this review, if you’re intrigued, definitely check these guys out live. It’s worth every penny.
Marauders! Wolves! Scavengers! Party!! is a force to be reckoned with. You really wouldn’t expect a guy who is so laid back in person to have an utterly disturbing scream. The band is somewhat linear in their lyrical content; drinking, partying, and sex, but when it comes to the lifestyles of some “hardcore” people, that’s what it’s all about.
The lyrics do have a lot of audience participation, which is exactly what you want during a live show. Clapping, chanting, and having fun! During “Gin & Slime”, the chorus is always belted out by the crowd. Who wouldn’t shout out “I was wed, ‘neath a neon sign, shaped like girls and hundred dollar bills”? It’s one of the most random lines I’ve heard to date. OH YEAH!
Even though the disc is only an EP, it’s one of the most intensive discs I’ve heard to date. I can hardly wait for the release of a full length album. [ END ]
