Album Review
Deadlock
Earth.Revolt (2005)
Formed back in 1997 as a four piece band, Deadlock has greatly adapted and changed since then. Members have quit, members have been replaced, additional members have been added, and so on. For this album, Earth.Revolt, the band was a five piece band, accompanied by Sabine, a female vocalist to add some cleanliness to the tracks. The five members are Johannes Prem (Vocals), Sebastian Reichl (Guitar), Gert Rymen (Guitar), Thomas Huschka (Bass), and Tobias Graf (Drums). After the recording of this album back in 2005, Sabine became a full member officially making Deadlock a six piece band.
The disc opens up with “Demonic (Tonus Diabolus),” which is only an introduction to the album. It is also an intro to the track “10,000 Generations in Blood.” The song sounds very dark, and could be classified under Black Metal. Johannes’ lyrics are strong and powerful and they add a sense of mourning to the track. When Sabine’s vocals join the medley, the track tends to pick up a bit more of a melodic feel about it, ascending onto a whole new platform of Metal.
The fifth track on the album is “Earth.Revolt,” which as you all noticed, is the title of the album. Again, the track has a melodic feel about it. The track opens up with piano, enticing the listener to listen further… to see what follows the melody. Sebastian and Gert’s guitar skills step up the ladder for this track, as they rip up the necks of their guitars and tear a big gaping vortex into the harshness of Metal!
Seventh on the album is the famous “Awakened By Sirens.” This track has been played worldwide and all over Metal radios on the internet. Sabine’s vocals in this track, being feminine against a death metal/black metal riff, actually sound really good. Sounds almost eerie! Once Johanne’s vocals kick in, the guitar riff gets even heavier. The track got me so pumped and I wanted to sing along to every word!
Ninth on the disc is “May Angels Come.” This track is a long fucking song clocking in at 11 minutes of Metal. I wonder how shredded the tips of their fingers must be after playing 11 minutes of brutal mayhem. After hearing this track, the guitar riff got me so hooked on it, that I went onto ultimate guitar and learned the tab for it. It’s insanely hard to play after the main riff.
Overall, the album was amazing. The vocals kicked ass, the guitar riffs were amazing, the bass lines were tight, and the drums were even tighter. Way to go guys! You got yourselves a fucking 10/10! [ END ]
