Within the Ruins recently released their earth-shattering full-length Phenomena, adding to their already amazing repertoire. This Summer, after 6 months of writing and recording, they headed out on the road with the Summer Slaughter Tour to give fans a real, live taste of their signature technicality and heavy style. I was lucky enough to be able to hang out with powerhouse vocalist Tim Goergen, at the New York City stop on August 8, 2014, and find out a little about what’s next for the band, as well as talk comics, beer and life on the road.

On July 29, 2014 the Summer Slaughter Tour came to the State Theatre located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Coincidentally, this year’s headliners were local boys, Morbid Angel. With 30 years on their resume, they’ve helped to create and redefine the foundations of death metal as we know it. That night, song after song, (including “Rapture,” “Where The Slime Lives” and “Existo Vulgoré”) they crushed the rest of the fest’s line up which included bands of the caliber of Dying Fetus and Origin, to name a few.

Well it’s Summer and you know what that means… short shorts, over exposed man arm, and sweaty metal shows! The Summer Slaughter Tour hit Toronto’s The Sound Academy on August 9th and was headlined by The Black Dahlia Murder in support of their latest record Ritual with specials guests Whitechapel, Darkest Hour, Dying Fetus, Powerglove and a shit ton more.

Whitechapel has only been around for the last 5 years and already they have made a big impact in the metal scene. Hailing from Knoxville Tennessee, the boys in Whitechapel have released 3 albums, 5 music videos and toured a countless amount of times as a headlining act. I got to sit down with guitarist Alex and talk about the bands rise to success in such a short time.
