LANY’s Alt-Pop Brightens up a Dreary Evening at Becketts University [Photos & Show Review]
The weather was absolutely dreadful outside in Leeds but, inside Becketts University, Los Angeles alt-pop stars LANY brought some of their sunshine to a packed Yorkshire venue.
Like every other date so far on this UK run, Los Angeles outfit LANY hit the stage to a packed room at Becketts University in Leeds on a cold Monday night. It’s a far cry from the California sun that the band are used to but, for these fans shoehorned into every vantage spot available, the breezy Cali alt-pop is the perfect antidote for the dreary weeather outside.
Opening with “Thick And Thin”, there first thing you are made aware of is that this band are sickeningly slick. Yes frontman Paul Jason Klein effortlessly flings himself about the tiny stage and is clearly the star of a very polished show but, in reality, everything else is about as slick as it can be. From the attention demanding visuals to the explosions of polished alt-pop, the LANY is show is pristine. Not only that but the female contingent camped out against the barrier holding flowers are given an extra treat as Klein joins them early on in the set and, even that early on, you can see why he is the star of this particular pop show.
Judging by the packed rooms, LANY fans support their heroes through “Thick And Thin”:
Armed with the likes of “I Don’t Love You Anymore”, “Run” and “Malibu Nights”, this packed out intimate venue lap up every minute of this evening of alt-pop as LANY leave their fans ecstatic and any newcomers to the party in no doubt that this is a band on the cusp of bigger things than this.
LANY‘s Malibu Nights came out through Polydor on October 5, 2018.
