Beach Slang – “The Things We Do To Find People Like Us” [Album Review]
The Debut album from Beach Slang clocks in at less than half an hour and, if I’m honest, I am kind of grateful for that!
The Debut album from Beach Slang clocks in at less than half an hour and, if I’m honest, I am kind of grateful for that! There is nothing on this release that really stands out to me, but don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike it, it just comes across as a rather generic pop-punk outing.
The Things We Do To Find People Like Us hit the halfway mark before there was a tune that even slightly grabbed my attention; enter “Too Late To Die Young”, an acoustic, emotional and passionate tune that showcases vocalist James Alex’s feelings about life. Unfortunately the rest of the release’s songs pretty much just meld into one another and, given the length, it’s easy to let the whole thing go by without even realizing it.
Although there are several cons to The Things We Do To Find People Like Us, there remain at least a few pros: for one, James Alex is clearly a very gifted lyricist, one who’s in touch with his inner emotions and is able to adeptly put those feelings to paper and artfully share them with a relating audience.
Overall, musically, I found Beach Slang’s first outing unimpressive; however, when you strip it down, you find an emotionally-charged album that has a message to which many folk can relate.
