Filmed live on June 6th, 2010 at London’s Finsbury Park, this disc more than successfully captures the sheer energy and passion of a Rage Against The Machine performance. The show itself was one to celebrate, and to reward the band’s rabid followers for a successful, fan-driven campaign which made the group’s popular hit “Killing In The Name” number one on the UK charts. The campaign was the brainchild of social media pioneers Jon and Tracy Morter in an effort to stop “The Xfactor” hits from dominating the UK Charts’ number one spot during the Christmas season.
The band has long been known for their intense, passionate live shows and I think this Blu-ray disc, filmed in stunning HD, gives the viewer a fantastic, intimate, up-close-and-personal look at the group on-stage.
As you might imagine, since this was a sort of reward or gift to the fans, many of Rage’s biggest hits were included in the set-list (the previously mentioned “Killing In The Name,” “Bombtrack,” “Bullet In The Head,” “Bulls On Parade”).
As I watched the performance I couldn’t help but be reminded of the fact that Rage writes politically-charged, classic, anthemic music that always seems relevant, no matter the era. And, if the stand alone performance was not enough, the release also contains an informative, behind-the-scenes mini documentary, and interview with Jon and Tracy Morter.
