Unleashed – “Odalheim” [Album Review]
These Swedish death metal titans once again live up to their name by “unleashing” an unbelievably-solid, punishing slab of metal. Odalheim is Unleashed’s eleventh full-length effort to date, and as a longtime fan of the band I can say that of their entire catalog, it’s probably my favorite. While Odalheim might not stray far from the path they’ve forged over the years, this is actually a good thing – Unleashed are one of the most consistently reliable bands in the death metal scene.

With lots of crunchy riffage, tons of groove and a fair amount of speed, Odalheim really commands attention. From the very first note of the disc’s opener “Fimbulwinter”, the furious assault is set in motion and the rest of the album follows suit in typical Unleashed fashion. This is one of the better death metal albums I have heard all year, and one that is certainly worth taking note of.
