Album Review
Campaign – “One Night Weekend” [7″] [EP]
A new release from Atlanta’s Campaign – at two tracks the 7″ is short even by their standards – and it’s another solid addition to a strong catalogue that has been developed over recent years. These two songs are harsher and grittier than past releases, but have less of the melodic presence of earlier EP’s like H1N1 and It Likes To Party. Tracing the development of the band through their last four releases, you can see a departure from catchier hardcore to more straightforward punk.

Both tracks are similarly visceral and blunt, but a slight edge goes to “No Friend of Mine” as the stronger of the two songs. Its sizzling guitar solo and tight structure give it a better presentation and a solid cohesion, although the snarling guitar lick that introduces “Keep Walking” is a great moment. One Night Weekend isn’t the most important punk release of late, or the strongest Campaign release to date, but its two killer punk songs are a good reason to be excited for the upcoming EP due out soon.
