Such Gold – “Pedestals” [EP]
Six songs; breakneck pace, upbeat, relentless. Such Gold are a five-piece hailing from Rochester, NY and their new EP Pedestals can pretty much be embodied by that blunt tagline. The songs bleed into one another as the guitar jumps quickly from riff to riff, and the drums quit abruptly before igniting again, always hammering out a blistering tempo.

The music is one part old school pop-punk and one part modern hardcore; it’s the result of being influenced, as the band’s MySpace says, by Saves the Day, Hot Water Music, Boys Night Out, At the Drive-In and Propagandhi. The latter two bands aren’t noticeable in the tunes, but the other three are pretty evident.
This EP is a strong effort and although it isn’t groundbreaking or earth-shattering, it’s pretty damn tight. The vocals swing effortlessly from slick melody to harsh screams and the heavy bass lines add the extra layer the music needs to truly come together. And, on top of all that, it’s seriously catchy.
