Album Review
Oceana – “Birth.Eater/Clean Head” [Double EP]
May of 2010 marked the release of Oceana’s album Birth.Eater/Clean Head. This record, a compilation of two previous releases, Birth.Eater and Clean Head EP is an inexpensive and efficient ‘two for the price of one’ deal. The package is comprised of 16 songs in total, the entire 12 tracks from Birth.Eater and 4 from the Clean Head EP. Now that’s an idea that floats my boat.

Initially I found this release took some ‘getting into’ due in large to its diversity. On the one hand it’s a heavy album with plenty of hardcore influence, on the other it has soft rock parts that some may even call ‘emo.’ It’s a combination that requires the right mood, but having achieved that it’s an amazing experience that won’t disappoint as it presents a nice balance of the two genres. As I got into the groove of the album I found the guitaring to be of particular interest; Oceana makes use of an old fashioned technique of complexing the music.
Birth.Eater/Clean Head is a great compilation to get if you are a Oceana fan and want some bang for your buck. Fans of Cancer Bats, Dead And Divine, The End and Johnny Truant will also really like Oceana and their work. [ END ]
