Janes Addiction – “Live Voodoo” [DVD Review]
Dazzling, captivating and electrifying! That is the only way to explain the DVD that captures this legendary alternative band live on stage at the Voodoo Experience, Halloween Night, 2009. The reunited classic lineup of Perry Farrell, Stephen Perkins, Eric Avery and Dave Navarro are back and in top form as they play to a packed house in New Orleans. The set list is mostly drawn from the band’s first two albums and includes some of their huge hits…
The set list is mostly drawn from the band’s first two albums and includes some of their huge hits such as the blockbusters, “Been Caught Stealing” and “Jane Says.”
Jane’s Addiction is one of those groups that plowed through uncharted territory back in the late eighties and early nineties, eventually helping to sculpt and define the alternative rock scene. There really is no way you can even have a conversation about this musical genre without mentioning Farrell or Navarro at least once.
I have been a fan of the band since their first release and I never had the opportunity to catch them live. I believe that Live Voodoo is probably the next best thing. The performance is raw, the passion is palpable and the intensity is incredible as the band plays to the massive Halloween crowd. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole performance top to bottom.
As far as the DVD goes, the extra footage and interviews with the band were very informative and enlightening. As I have mentioned before I really dig the behind the scenes footage and clips. I think it makes the whole project a bit more intimate and a lot more fun to watch.
Bottom line, I think that Live Voodoo will be a welcome treasure for fans of Jane’s Addiction or a fantastic starting point for those looking to become more acquainted with this highly influential act.
