Album Review
Spider Rockets
Ever After (07.17.2007)
Ever After is an interesting release. I had never heard of the band before this review and I must say I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. The Spider Rockets are fronted by a female vocalist who seems to have a very good, very distinctive voice. It is quite different from anything else I have heard. The band itself is a sort of amalgamation of modern rock, industrial metal and possibly even some grunge. The result of these varied influences is a record that is a diverse as the bands’ influences.
I was personally very fond of the tune “Reasons For Deceit”, because while it does have a decent rock groove, it is also quite eclectic and a bit different from anything on the scene now. I also need to make mention of the remake of the Beatles song “Helter Skelter.” Over the years this song has been redone countless times, (most notably by Motley Crue) and I feel that most of the versions are weak and cheap imitations. Not the case with the Spider Rocket’s version. They stay true to the original while at the same time infusing it with their own personality and style. The end product is a fantastic rendition of a classic song.
While Ever After is not your characteristic metal fare, there is something on here for just about everyone. Granted you may not be banging your head and snapping your neck to this one but if you are a fan of solid, well-written and well produced music, you will probably really dig this. At the end of the day I think this is a good disc from an interesting band that I hope to hear more from in the future. [ END ]
