Album Review
Strata
The End Of The World (2007)
For those of you who kind of like My Chemical Romance, but don’t want to admit it because Gerard Way is such a douche bag, this is the album for you!
The End of the World lays out a society on the brink of disaster inhabited by residents who are hitting, or are about to hit, rock bottom. It’s dark and angsty and could very well become a student film one day.
“Cocaine (We’re All Going to Hell)” highlights the album as a dark, modern vignette of the girl we all know who will do anything to feel cool, and pays the price.
“New National Anthem” is just downright chilling as Strata rewrites the “Star Spangled Banner” using dark imagery of hate and war. Maybe it’s depressing because it feels so real, but I couldn’t help but be really down after about halfway through. Even when a few happier songs are thrown in it doesn’t improve the mood.
This album left me cold, but impressed. I can’t complain about any of the points it brought up for it only speaks the truth. [ END ]
