In The Arms of Devastation (2006)
Fucking right! A fucking Canadian band! This totally amazing Canadian band formed back in 1992 and label themselves as being Northern Hyperblast Metal; but most people just call them Death Metal… with a hint of Melodic Black Metal. The band consists of Maurizio Iacono (vocals), Jean-Francois Dagenais (guitar), Stephane Barbe (bass), and Max Duhamel (drums).
The first track on the album is “Like Angels Weeping (The Dark).” The introduction starts off with a deep, creepy voice saying ‘Revenge… Is a meal best served cold.’ Now I don’t know if this is just me, but I find that line kind of disturbing. The instrumental to this track is insane; the guitar is out-of-this-world and the bass just kicks major ass. Max is an amazing drummer and should be up for awards! Maurizio’s vocals are chilling to the bone.
Fifth up on the album is “It Turns to Rust.” I enjoyed this intro quite a bit. It’s kinda hard to explain, so you might just have to check it out for yourselves. This track sort of reminds me of King Midas, and how whatever he touches turns to gold. The main line in the track is “Everything you touch turns to rust.” The bridge to the track is astonishing. During the bridge, the track somewhat slows down a bit, and the guitar stands out the most among all of the instruments, which I just so happen to love, being a guitar player myself.
Eighth on the album is “In Words of Desperation.” This song is more Speed Metal than Death Metal. Jean uses his fast picking skills to his utmost ability and Max’s drum skills turn up a notch, right when I thought they couldn’t get any more remarkable. And again, Maurizio’s vocals scare the shit out of me. I wouldn’t want to get him pissed off, his voice is enough to make me literally shit my pants.
On the whole, the album kicked some major ass. If I could describe it in only one word, I would probably say something along the lines of “SUPERB!” I’m gonna have to give props to my fellow Canadians, and hook them up with a big fat 9/10. Keep it rockin’ guys! [ END ]
