Jonah Parzen-Johnson Teases New Album ‘Imagine Giving Up’ with Lead Single “Stand Still”
Jonah Parzen-Johnson, the Brooklyn, New York-based abstract jazz musician, has confirmed a January 17th, 2020 release of his new album Imagine Giving Up. The six-song recording, the artist’s fourth, is due out via We Jazz Records and accompanied by the glorious lead single “Stand Still.” Imagine Giving Up sees the musician once again artfully mixing his baritone saxophone with hardware synths and samplers with consummate ease. It’s experimental, it’s modern, and it’s rooted in jazz.
Following the July 2017 release of I Try To Remember Where I Come From, and his first live recording, Helsinki 8.12.18, in June 2019, all of the upcoming album’s tracks were composed and produced by Parzen-Johnson, though Matti Nives also had a hand in production. Parzen-Johnson is presently trekking across Europe and will soon also announce U.S. performances.
Speaking briefly of the new tunes, Jonah said, “Only a few people can really start over. Everyone else is left to struggle down the path they were assigned. The option to give up, to choose your own path, is power, and, hopefully, a call to action: take a risk to help someone.”
