The Wildfires Projekt have unveiled their unique “darkwave” cover of Yellowcard’s single, “Ocean Avenue,” in celebration of the track’s 20th anniversary. The formation of this release, which can be found here, was brought to life by the desire to create a version unlike any other in celebration of the genre-defining song we grew up shouting at the top of our lungs.
The band’s Johnny Zirkel comments on the tune, noting:
“Originally starting off as just a 30s clip on social media, when Yellowcard’s Ryan Mendez commented on the video to release a full version, I happily obliged. This is the result.”
The artwork pays homage to the “Ocean Avenue” acoustic cover, and the promo video (viewable here) pays homage to the original music video by tying in similar themes of classic cars and the need to escape.
This release also marks the very first song by The Wildfires Projekt that was completely produced and mixed by the artist.
