A Day To Remember (w/ The Used, The Ghost Inside) Fire Up Five Point Amphitheater [Photos]
A Day To Remember fired up Irvine, CA’s Five Point Amphitheater with The Used and The Ghost Inside, making for a nifty night of heavy music. Photos by Charlie Steffens.
A Day To Remember has just finished their “Just Some More Shows” concert jaunt, a one-month extension of the band’s massive “Just Some Shows” tour that ran through the U.S. and Canada over the summer. Five Point Amphitheater provided a choice setting for a night of heavy music. The seven-thousand people in attendance got to see a real rock show from start to finish.
The Ghost Inside hit the stage at dusk and played an incredible set, with the Los Angeles metalcore band giving an impassioned display of brutality to their Southern California following. Lead vocalist Jonathan Vigil expressed his gratitude to the crowd, recounting the tragic accident in 2015 where the band’s tour bus collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, leaving both drivers dead, ten people severely injured, and three of the band members (including Vigil) in critical condition. Revitalized and back in business, there was no sign of decline among the members during their 45-minute performance.
The Used provided contrast with a sound and modus-operandi much different than the preceding act. “Take It Away,” a hard-hitting fan favourite, pumped-up the crowd, setting the mood right. Singer Bert McCracken’s swagger and interaction with the crowd was at times void of savoir-faire and provided comic (perhaps caustic) amusement between songs. “Fuck you. I’m the daddy up here.” Along with the raillery came more killer cuts like “Take It Away” and “Pretty Handsome Awkward.”
A Day To Remember proved their mettle as expected for the headliner with excellent sound and spectacular stage production. Weaving elements of metalcore, pop-punk, and alternative rock and making great songs and performing them well live is the Ocala, Florida band’s forte. They opened with “The Downfall of Us All” and closed with “The Plot to Bomb the Panhandle.”
