Sacrocurse – ‘Supreme Terror’ [Album Review]
There was a time when I would only seek out and listen to blackened death metal that hadn’t turned over a stone but instead breathed life from the underbelly of rock n’ roll. I was pretty sure I was onto something that most overlooked like when Celtic Frost, Sacrifice, and Infernal Majesty first reared their unearthly heads. The music had a dark, dirty feeling, not unlike taking a train, with an appealing feeling of uncertainty, into the red light district to see your favourite band play.
There are a handful of great groups that most have never heard of: Nocturnal Grave, Witch Hammer, Krossfyre, Midnight, and Sacrocurse are to be found on that list, and that’s just the scum scraped off the top of the bottom. Thankfully, Hells Headbangers is a label that discovers and homes most of these very bands if not simply distributing them. A key gateway to things lesser-known, there’s not a barroom discussion among metal brethren that I don’t ask “have you checked out Hells Headbangers?”
Besieged by hot molten lava, we began 2021 with a new EP from Sacrocurse entitled Supreme Terror and its four tracks, “Herethical Catharsists,” “Man Became Cursed,” “Temple Is Open,” and “From Genesis To Revelations,” launch listeners into a pit of hellfire wherein they quickly find themselves engulfed in a maelstrom of sonic attack. The vocal attributes scream for help in understandably agonizing pain while a helping of grindcore pulls one up for air. Underneath it, one can hear souls burn and envision them being vomited by Lucifer himself as he belches and chuckles with laughter.
Simply put; Sacrocurse questions, “What are you willing to sacrifice? Are you willing to spill blood in the unholy name of metal, or have you already done so?”
