Alia Lene Wonderfully Reinvents Holidays Classics on Her New EP, ‘Christmas Miracle’ [Premiere]
The actual day may be two weeks away, but a little Christmas Miracle is about to land in your lap tomorrow in the form of singer Alia Lene’s brand new EP. This little miracle has arrived a day early for your listening pleasure, a group of new recordings that sees Lene offer a modern take on some of your favourite Christmas classics, such as “Santa Baby” and “Drummer Boy.”
You’ve never heard Christmas done quite this way, with Lene leaning on her roots in R&B and hip-hop to reinvent these songs in a way that you would have never imagined. She has stunningly succeeded, coherently putting a whole new spin on songs that have been recorded hundreds of times, often in unoriginal and predictable ways. The EP has already been garnering a lot of exposure with the title track being heavily featured in the BET network holiday film ‘Twas The Chaos Before Christmas which premiered last year. Lene’s take on “Christmas Morning” is also featured on the film’s official soundtrack.
Explaining why she chose to record these songs in her own special way, Lene said, “I wanted to put my spin on the holidays and give Christmas a little turn-up. I love loud music and dancing so I wanted to have music that can fit into that scene. No one has heard Christmas like that. I called in some amazing musicians to help me flush out the ideas. So thank you to, Cvrrent, Icee Red, Ayaana Nash, SW8VY, and Golden Child. You’ll be hearing more from us for sure!”
The Minneapolis born Lene has thus far only released six singles, but has already been making her mark as a vocalist with her most recent single “Die For You” and the one previous to that “You Ain’t Ready” each amassing over 200,000 streams on Spotify. A multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer all in one, Lene is defined not only by the diversity of her talents but also by her incredibly soulful voice, reminiscent of some of soul’s greatest female vocalists. Raised in a Baptist family, Lene was singing her heart out at church from a very young age, both as part of the church band and choir. She proceeded to study sound engineering, graduating from The High School for Recording Arts in Saint Paul. In 2018, Lene became the first signing to Contra Worldwide Recordings, a label started by Haqq Islam, a man who helped discover and break the careers of popular artists such as Mya, Dru Hill, and Sisqo.
As well rounded of a musician as you will ever encounter, Lene is readying her debut album for release this coming spring. In the meantime, she’d love for you to enjoy a little Christmas cheer as we look forward to a new year.
