Seattle, Washington-based Cambodian American artist Thavoron releases his new single/music video, “Body,” an ode to sensuality and magnetic attraction. Where his previous songs probed the trauma and challenges of physical relationships, “Body” signals a shift in perspective.

Thavoron explains, “The inspiration for ‘Body’ was a sort of reclamation of my sexuality. I was starting to shift my mindset and realized the power you can hold or remove in sex and intimacy.”

“Body” also sees Thavoron substituting throbbing electronic production as a replacement for his signature neo-folk sound. The song follows on the heels of his 2023 sophomore album, Tommy Loves You, featuring “18.” The video, directed by Maddie Ludgate, celebrates queer freedom and the thrilling vibrancy of new connections.

The intro of “Body” features Thavoron’s dreamy, spellbinding vocals riding over warm synths. As the rhythm enters, the melody takes on tints of edgy tension that expand with incandescent passion on the chorus, which is highlighted by glossy, falsetto harmonies. There’s a susceptibility, a sensual fervor energizing the melody, making it hard to resist.
