JEMS Seeks Truth in “Bury It” Single Ahead of Upcoming Album ‘Back Around’
Off the heels of their recent hit “The Weather,” transcendent alternative-folk trio JEMS releases a song seeking truth with “Bury It.”

Off the heels of their recent hit “The Weather,” transcendent alternative-folk trio JEMS releases a song seeking truth with “Bury It.” A reflection on being true to oneself and the consequences of repressing pain is delivered through three distinct narratives, urging listeners to cast aside the expectations of others and embrace authenticity. Burying things deep within ourselves rather than confronting them head-on will only lead to future turmoil. This, in its rawest form, is the soul behind the trio’s highly anticipated hit. Quickly becoming a fan favourite during live performances, “Bury It” captivates audiences with its poignant lyrics and melodic power ballad structure, featuring a dynamic key change that adds a unique flair to the track.
The origins of JEMS trace back to a cross-country solar eclipse pilgrimage and impromptu tour in the summer of 2017. The trio discovered the auspicious blend of their voices, creating what they affectionately refer to as “the fourth voice.” Jessica Rotter’s warm, colorful blend, Emily Colombier’s soulful earthy quality, and Sarah Margaret Huff’s bright soaring timbre unite to form a harmonious, entirely new sound.
Each member of JEMS brings their musical background and training to the table. Jessica Rotter, a Los Angeles native with a successful singing career, found her true voice in indie folk. Emily Colombier, the daughter of renowned musicians Paula Hochhalter and Michel Colombier, reconnects with her childhood friend Jessica, contributing her unique style to the group. Sarah Margaret Huff, hailing from Mississippi, brings diverse musical experiences from Nashville to Los Angeles, adding another layer to the trio’s multifaceted sound.
JEMS gained notable attention in the Los Angeles music scene following the release of their self-titled debut album and captivating live shows. They have showcased their talents in the documentary series “Music Diaries” and performed on NPR/World Cafe Live. The trio also toured with She & Him in the summer of 2022, marking a significant milestone in their career. The upcoming sophomore album, Back Around, promises an expansive landscape of enchanting harmonies, adventurous instrumentals, and compelling storytelling. JEMS is set to release Back Around in June 2024, accompanied by exciting videos and live performances. The trio looks forward to a year filled with new releases, building anticipation for their highly anticipated album.
