Karen Lee Batten Releases Her “The Trouble with Friends” Music Video
Award-winning Canadian country recording artist Karen Lee Batten has released the official music video for her current single, “The Trouble with Friends.”
Co-written by Batten with the song’s producer Jeff Johnson (Madeline Merlo, Meghan Patrick), “The Trouble with Friends” mixes a contemporary country sound with the artist’s spirited vocal delivery for an upbeat, toe-tapping country dance party staple. The new single also serves as the title track of the artist’s fourth album, which is due in 2024. The video was directed by Meaghan Gipps, who previously helmed Batten’s last two video releases.
Speaking about the video, Batten says,
“The premise for the song is that friends never let you leave. You’ll meet one early on and next thing you know, it’s last call and you’re with the rest of your regulars. For the video, I surrounded myself with many of my friends to put the message forward that the ‘trouble’ with friends is that they are truly indispensable. In life, we need to live a little and enjoy the company of friends as much as we can.”
“The Trouble with Friends” is the first new music from the Langley, British Columbia-based artist since back-to-back singles “Too Strong” and “Drinkin’ Song” in 2020 and 2021 – to go along with a dynamic collection of notable accomplishments.
A former Canadian Idol finalist, Batten is also an eight-time BC Country Music Association Award Winner for Female Artist of the Year, a regular anthem singer for the Vancouver Canucks, and has amassed over one million Spotify streams and 400K YouTube views across three albums and various singles.
More recently, she was the Jim Beam Indies 2022 Country Artist of the Year at Canadian Music Week. As a reflection of her dual success as an artist and music industry professional, she won three 2023 BCCMA Awards, for Business Professional of the Year, Don Adams Industry Supporter of the Year, and Country Event of the Year.
As she looks forward to the fourth album in her storied career, Karen Lee Batten wants “The Trouble with Friends” to be a reminder to fans to never lose their sense of friendship and fun. “The Trouble with Friends” is available across all digital platforms and on Canadian country radio.
