From Ashes to New Tear Up Big Night Live in Boston, MA
From Ashes to New, with The Word Alive, Catch Your Breath, and Ekoh delivered on all fronts at their recent Boston gig at Big Night Live.

From Ashes to New brought The Blackout Tour, Part 1, to Big Night Live in Boston last week. Along for the ride were The Word Alive, Catch Your Breath, and Ekoh. This made for an interesting lineup that turned out to be a really good mix for a great night!
Rapper Ekoh began the night with a rap set for the masses. Ekoh played with DJ Kode and a drummer on the stage. They played songs like “Ted Talk,” “Wayside,” “Freestyle 3,” and “Hello Loneliness.” If you like rappers like NF and Chris Webby, then Ekoh is one to look into next. Ekoh also has many features with different artists of many styles of music. I originally found Ekoh through his song “Hello Loneliness,” which he does with Lo Spirit.
Up next was Catch Your Breath. They played seven songs, including popular songs like “Dying on the Inside,” “Cycles,” and “21 Gun Salute.” Ekoh appeared for their third song, “Mirrors,” which he does a feature on. Hearing them do the song live made me appreciate the song more. Their closer was “Dial Tone,” which has been a song on repeat for me over the last few months.
The Word Alive is always a pleasure to see live. I’ve been watching the band progress over the past decade, and it’s been a fun journey. Opening with “Strange Love,” they mostly played their newer material. “Trapped” and “Play the Victim” were the oldest songs on their setlist. Vocalist Telle puts on a stellar performance with lots of energy and engagement with the crowd and photographers. They also played “Slow Burn” and ended with “New Reality.”
From Ashes to New came on the stage after their big screens played a PlayStation-like game for their intro. They then vaulted into “Armageddon” and “Dead to Me.” Most of their songs were from their new album Blackout, including “Monster in Me,” “Hate Me Too,” and “Heartache.” They also played “Scars That I’m Hiding.” “Panic.” and “Broken.”
During the band’s encore, they closed with three songs: their cover of “All I Want for Christmas is You,” “Crazy,” and “Through it All.” It was fun to shoot From Ashes to New again since I got to see and shoot them back in August. Overall, this was a stellar night of live rock n’ roll, featuring four musical acts that have really hit their stride.
