Omar Apollo – ‘Live for Me’ [EP] [Album Review]
While ‘Live for Me’ is a mere glance into the capabilities of Omar Apollo, it remains a unique, thoughtful, endearing, and varied contribution to music.
Omar Apollo’s newest EP, Live for Me, is only four songs, yet it feels like twelve. Each era of each song is blended seamlessly together through a collection of wild and unexpected transitions. Apollo transcends genres and does not fail to include any shortage of choirs, synthetic beats, and acoustics.
The connection between his music and Frank Ocean’s is blatantly obvious from even a quick listen to any track— as he utilizes similar techniques in his piecing together of different elements and in the transitions in sound.
And yet, Apollo’s voice is quite distinct, especially with his remarkable range. While the EP is a mere glance into the capabilities of Omar Apollo, it remains a unique, thoughtful, endearing, and varied contribution to music.
