prchr. Gets Heavy with the Premiere of His “GHOST / CHICAGO” Double Single
With his brand new double “GHOST / CHICAGO,” prchr. proves that there is more than one way to be “heavy.” Sure, the song is loud and expressive, with lots of emotion and some crushing distorted guitars, but that’s not the heavy we’re talking about.
The Gold Coast, Australian-based artist is the type of musician who is adept at making a statement with his songs, and “GHOST” is no different, with its straight-up, hard-edged, powerful lyrics about feeling isolated and detached from what you should be close to. The song is one-half of prchr.’s new double single, with the other side being the equally likable “CHICAGO,” with both songs helping to define his eclectic, widely appealing sound.
Elaborating on his ideas for “GHOST / CHICAGO,” prchr. tells us:
“‘GHOST’ is a dark, fuzzy, catchy composition written around the themes of isolation from loved ones, self-doubt, accepting the person you are and giving up hope that things will get better. ‘CHICAGO’ builds upon the foundations of blues rock and adds a modern garage fling to it. The track revolves around the ideas of escapism and wasting your time on the wrong people yet is amplified thanks to the power of the instrumentation behind it.”
At only 24 years of age, prchr. (pronounced percher) has accomplished quite a bit. He’s been recognized by a bevy of local college radio stations in both Australia and the U.S. and has earned some spins on BBC Radio 1. It is through this avenue, as well as through streaming, that he has primarily gathered listeners, one at a time, who have gravitated towards his mix of modern songwriting with ’90s alternative.
He recently released his debut EP Only Child which introduced his fuzzed-out, distorted, supercharged sound. If you enjoy big-time hooks, they are aplenty right here and right now.
