Nantes, France-based rock foursome Les Fantômes du Jour today unveils their single “Situations II,” lifted from the upcoming debut album, Ravages.
Les Fantômes du Jour was formed in 2017 as an instrumental trio fronted by guitarist Ronan Cloarec and bassist Bruno Bourrien. The group became a quartet in 2021 with the addition of new drummer Alexandre Jadi and singer Amine Bousta. They are ready to release their debut album, Ravages, on November 3 via the label Ajna Management after a long time of composing and recording.
In order to capture and amp up their on-stage energy for the recording of the album, they used a variety of studio artifices, always prioritizing the emotional quality of the performance. These included drums in a large room for depth, guitar overdubs, vocal harmonizations, bass reamplification through pedals, and outrageous use of reverb and distortion on nearly every instrument. Les Fantômes du Jour does not seek to provide the same experience in the studio as it does live because the moments of the stage and the studio are intrinsically different.
To the likely cost of his mental health, Ronan Cloarec oversaw the entire production, recording, mixing, and mastering of the album with assistance from Ronan Fouquet for the drum session and Sybille Delattre for vocal recording. They granted complete creative control over the images to producer Sybille Delattre and graphic artist Julien Bonnet, who kindly provided them with a specific cover for “Situations II.”
