Rather than making a bunch of references and puns to her music being “sweet,” “delicious,” or “savoury,” we’ll save you the eye rolls and scoffs and get straight to the facts. Alternative soul artist Sloe Honey is thrilled to be premiering her impassioned new single “Lovesick” today, the third single and title track from her debut album due out on May 12th.

The new track is of the empowering variety, a reminder to stay strong in times of trouble. It’s a very personal song, influenced by the singer-songwriter’s own very private experiences, but it’s certainly a song that would strike a wide appeal, thanks to its very relatable subject matter. Describing the song, what it means to her, and what musically influenced it, Sloe Honey tells us:

”‘Lovesick’ is really a small lecture and reminder to myself that if I insist on staying with someone who does not fully reciprocate my loving, romantic energy, that I should remember to hold back when it feels like it’s too painful for me to carry on. I remind myself who I am – I am not my ego, I am an eternal being and everything that is happening is just a reflection of my inner world and isn’t even ‘real.’ I wanted the vibe to be a cross between ’80s synth pop and my original influences of soul and RnB.”

Sloe Honey is the alias adopted by Melissa Trinchere. She just began going by that alias this past fall, when she was inspired to take on the namesake by the Fiona Apple song “Slow Like Honey.” She changed the “Slow” part to “Sloe,” in reference to the sloe berry, which is Trinchere’s birth flower. On top of it all, the meaning of the name Melissa is “honey bee,” so it all tied together quite perfectly.

It’s been a long leadup to the release of Lovesick, going back to 2008 in Ireland, when Trinchere was part of a successful local artist collective called The Osta Sessions. During this time, they opened for popular Irish artists such as John Spillane and Rory Gallagher, and in turn, other songwriting opportunities presented themselves to her, like being a featured vocalist for an indie short film titled The Storytellers New Voices of The Twilight Saga: We’ve Met Before. Now, Trinchere is feeling confident on her own, ready to define herself as an artist and a musician, with ideas and inspiration in large abundance.
