Usually, the musicians who have the most extensive, creative, and commercially rewarding careers are the ones who can adapt and refocus as time goes by. That’s Emarosa in a nutshell, a (now) duo that has demonstrated a great capability to evolve, as you may notice on their latest single “Again,” a more rhythmic effort than you may be used to by these two gentlemen. It comes from their brand new album Sting, which will be coming your way on January 27th, through Out of Line Music. This will be the follow-up to their more pop-oriented debut Peach Club which was a new musical turn from where singer Bradley Scott and guitarist ER White previously were at.

Collaborators for nearly a decade, Scott and White successfully pivoted away from a more hard rock-oriented approach, to the dream pop sound they cultivated on 2019’s Peach Club. After the chart-topping success that the album enjoyed, the duo took their time recording the follow-up, ensuring that Sting would fulfill fan expectations. With a combination of pop, synth-wave, alternative rock, and 1980s new wave, you have an act confidently moving forward, making the music they want to make.

Just for today, in our inaugural “Chew the Mat” interview, we shifted the focus away from music and chatted with Bradley Scott about everyone’s favourite American pastime, professional wrestling. Scott explained to us how he first got into wrestling, what he loves about it, and what his finishing move would be if he were a wrestler himself.

Who’s your favourite wrestler right now, and who’s your all-time favourite?

Bradley Scott: “I think right now Sami Zayn takes the cake. He’s firing on all cylinders, and when he’s on my screen, I am hanging on every word. So entertaining… As far as all-time, I think he’s extremely underrated, but I’ve got to go with Randy Orton. Absolute legend and the first ballot hall of fame.”

Which wrestler would you want to write a theme song for?

“I think I could write an absolute killer theme for Rick Boogz. The man is a future star, and while he’s not very known right now, I would make him the perfect theme. A lot of themes feel a little generic sometimes, I’d love to add some spice to the roster.”

Best wrestler entrance theme?

“Once again, I have to go with Randy Orton. Those first few notes come out, and it gets me hyped! ‘I HEAR VOICES IN MY HEAD.’ So good.”

When did you start watching wrestling?

“My grandfather was a pro wrestler, and I was introduced to the business very young. The early attitude era was my generation. I missed school on Mondays some days because I was up so late watching pay-per-views with my mom.”

If you were a wrestler, what would your finishing move be? What would you call it?

“I think I’d go for a jumping flatliner, like a reverse Russian leg sweep, if I’m describing it right. Not sure what I’d name it. ‘Bad Apple’ or something ridiculous.”

One thing you would change about the WWE?

“I’d make myself an official WWE superstar. I think they’re missing a talent like me (smiles).”

If you were a wrestler, who would be your arch-nemesis?

“I think of all time, it might be John Cena. He’s the goody two shoes who always does the right thing, he’s the hero, and I think it would be fun to be the villain.”

The wrestling community and music community are pretty intertwined. What band do you think would be the coolest wrestling stable?

“Without a doubt, probably Slipknot. How cool of a wrestling faction they would be coming out with their masks to their own music? Unstoppable.”

Were you a WWF kid or a WCW kid?

“I grew up watching WWF, the Road Warriors, DX, Nation of Domination. I loved the attitude era, but I definitely started shifting my attention to WCW when the nWo started over in WCW. They won me over for a bit, but I’ll always be WWF at heart.”

Greatest female wrestler of all time?

“For me, it has to be Lita. Growing up, she was my absolute favourite; her and the Hardy Boyz were my favorite group. She was the anti-diva, the alternative to the norm, and as a 15-year-old boy, I loved that.”

Most memorable moment watching wrestling?

“It’s not unique, but definitely Undertaker throwing Mankind off the hell in a cell. My jaw dropped, and everyone in my house thought he was dead. Unreal moment.”

Last question, what would your theme song be as a WWE wrestler?

“I’ve thought about this more times than I can count. Right now, the top of my list is Novelists FR – ‘Smoke Signals.’”
