The duo Tralala has unveiled their double-A single “Winded / What’s the Point” which, have been both described as “synth-laden, dark, atmospheric, vibey, melodic, and conjuring a sense of ’80s and ’90s nostalgia.”
Formed during the onset of the Covid-19 lockdowns, Tralala is a duo consisting of musicians Drew Price and Chris Trewin (formerly of the San Francisco shoegaze band Your Cannons). Their early demos and Instagram vignettes got the attention of James Doviak (Johnny Marr’s producer and bandmate), who is now handling the final mixing of their songs as they work on their debut album, which is slated for an early 2023 release.
Commenting on the new music, Drew states:
“Our process is mostly asynchronous. ‘Winded’ was originally an acoustic track that I’d laid down in a studio years ago, sort of bare-bones. Chris liked the song but had an idea for a different approach to arranging it more as a synth-driven thing, which eventually evolved into this single.
“‘What’s the Point’ started life as a swampy drop-d guitar riff that Chris had laying around on a Soundcloud account, which Drew picked up and started to put words to and a melody. Most of that original idea doesn’t exist in the final version, which developed over time into this off-kilter beast with heavy synths that you hear now.”
