Review: “Cherry Wine Love”

Published

on

Currently living in Asheville, NC, Ryan Simpson (aka Reasoning) is debuting his leading single from the upcoming album The Hollow.
“Cherry Wine Love” is a song that grabbed our attention with its acoustic guitar and smooth lyrics that seem to blend seamlessly into the instrumentation of the song. With a name like “Cherry Wine Love”, one may draw comparison to another famous artist with a song of a similar title….. “Cherry Wine” by Hozier. Indeed, Ryan admits that the famous Hozier single was a direct influence of the title and the artistic direction that the song took. “My girlfriend and I broke up, and we had been through a lot. We had a song that we would always dance to, and that song was “Cherry Wine” by Hozier. That makes her my Cherry Wine Love.” says Ryan of the inspiration behind writing the song. “This song is just kind of my own way of making closure with what had happened. Since Hozier has always had a profound impact on me anyway, I tried to draw a bit of his style into the song when I was putting the instrumental together while still keeping my own style in tact. It seemed especially appropriate for this song.”
When writing “Cherry Wine Love” Ryan says he wrote the “main guitar riff first and came up with the chorus on the spot.” Although he usually records and produces on his own, Ryan enlisted the help of a friend, Liam Matthews, to help write some of the song. “He actually wrote the first verse and played the keyboard for me, and laid down part of the drum track. He’s really a super talented musician” says Ryan.
What can we expect next from this young artist? “My next album The Hollow is still in the works at the moment. I’ve not decided on a specific date yet, but it will definitely be before Christmas.”
