You’ll Be Doing a Dance of Death to Hear HEKATE’s New “Totentanz” Single [Exclusive Premiere]
German neofolk outfit, Hekate is set to release their seventh album, Totentanz, via Prophecy Productions and today we’re premiering the ominous title track, “Totentanz,” meaning “Dance of Death.”
Respected German neofolk outfit, Hekate is set to release their seventh album, Totentanz, on May 18th, 2018, via Prophecy Productions. Over their enduring career, they’ve become known for incorporating mythology and Romanticism into their work — but without sacrificing sonic power to academia or the archaic.
And this leads us to our premiere of the new album’s title track, “Totentanz,” meaning “Dance of Death.” The song opens with one ominous drum, as if it were the soundtrack of a march to an ancient temple. Layers of instruments creep in as more worshippers join the procession. Once the ethereal vocals kick in, there’s no turning back.
Overall, “Totentanz” showcases Hekate’s use of dynamics and rhythm to create a ritualistic, otherworldly experience for the listener. Pre-order the new collection of songs directly from the label here.
