Flobots played at the Horseshoe Tavern on Wednesday night, and they sure know how to get a crowd excited. If you’ve listened to them before, you know their music is political but not in a preachy or “holier than though” kind of way. It’s hopeful, unifying and inclusive. It gets concertgoers singing, chanting and throwing their fists up in the air.
It was a pretty long show but the audience was there for every minute of it; from high-energy songs like “Stop the Apocolypse” to the quieter, more stripped-down moments. Brer Bunnie playing “Voices of the Dead” on his banjo was a definite highlight.
They closed on the perfect note by covering Sly and the Family Stone’s “Everyday People”, prompting everyone to start singing and dancing together – a very fun end to the night. If you get a chance to see these guys, don’t pass it up. A special shout-out to the brilliant violinist Sarah Hubbard. You can’t take your eyes of this girl!
