The Abrams – The Abrams – Album Review
Warner Music Canada
By Marisa Filippo
If you’re looking for a new tune to jam in the car to, then you’ll want to check out The Abrams self-titled debut EP. Each of the six tracks on their debut EP truly demonstrates and defines their musical roots blended with the sound of their generation. This blend makes for the perfect car drive with the windows open and the sun beaming down.
Brothers John and James grew up listening to and playing country, bluegrass and gospel music. Their producer, Gavin Brown (Billy Talent, Metric, Three Days Grace), successfully developed a sound that took their musical roots and gave it a modern twist.
When speaking about the sound of his EP, John Abrams states, “Country music is where we feel most comfortable as artists, and on this EP we’re embracing it differently than we have in the past. Although we’re still in our early twenties, we feel our music has never had so much youthful energy before. That’s why we’ve decided to call the EP simply The Abrams. It really does feel like a new beginning.”
“Fine,” the lead single from The Abrams, distinctively captures the modern country sound that the brothers want to be known for. This track has a catchy chorus that definitely will be stuck in your head after the first listen. Every song on their EP tells a story, which are all relatable and relevant to their audience.

The Abrams brothers are fourth-generation musicians. In 2005, they became the youngest Canadians to perform at the Grand Ole Opry. In 2008, they released Blue on Brown, a collection of Bob Dylan and Arlo Guthrie songs. In 2011, they released their first all-original album, Northern Redemption.
Their major label self-titled debut EP proves that The Abrams were born ready.
