Album Review
Violent Soho – “WACO” [Album Review]
The infamous Australian quartet’s fourth album by the is easily one of their strongest releases, packing a wallop of nostalgia, good vibes and snotty attitude. Ranging from mid-tempo bangers to quick cuts while always exhibiting the perfect amount of restraint and the addition of a newfound fierceness makes this particular release something not to miss.
Just in time for the summer, here comes the perfect soundtrack to all your nights at friends’ backyards, drinking, smoking weed, having a good time, and puking into sewer grates on the way home. So basically, the soundtrack to your life, a life you could have if you just listen to one of the greatest bands to come out of Australia. Ever.
When my friend introduced me to this band, he described it as the perfect mix of Smashing Pumpkins and Blink 182. I can’t say I believed whether that could ever turn out right. What I got was even better than that, and since then I kept my eyes peeled for the group’s next release. So, when I saw that they’d released their fourth full-length, I jumped at the chance to listen to it. I’m stoked to say, it’s better than I could have hoped.
What’s clear about this record is its wriggling ability to crawl into your ear and keep you tuned to the harmonies and grooves that it highlights perfectly. It’s eerie how this band manages to sound like every act from the ’90s in the pinnacle of their career, and yet it’s so much more aware and current than that. It’s an exciting and shredding sound that makes me want to track down all my old Thrasher magazines and make another water bottle bong.
You know what? I don’t give a shit. This is one of the best fucking releases I’ve heard this year. It doesn’t matter if you wear a Supreme five panel hat, a Nausea back patch, or a wallet chain, this is a delicious album to skate, fuck, and party to. If you still have any life in you, you will love this album.
